Hey Gang.
Just a quick note to let you know the reasoning for my lack of updates. I have basically stopped using the web site for the last several weeks and only wanted to post in a limited fashion, because a couple of days before we went to Nashville, I was told by my web host that I needed to move the files and database to a different server. I took a backup of the web site at that time, and I didn’t want many changes to the backup and such until after it was done.
Well, it should be finished now, there may be something screwy here or there, but for the most part, everything is changed over just fine. I have a few more things I need to work on, but as of now, nearly full functionality should be good on here. And I’ll get back to fairly regular updates (as regular as they used to be anyway) to those of you that care.

Seriously? What are you hoping to accomplish. I’ve got it filtered so it doesn’t show up on the page anymore, yet every day, your robots try to post 100-200 comments, over and over.
It takes me all of 10 seconds to delete them. But it gets tedious having to check in once a week or so.
It seems to mostly be a couple of posts here and there. I had thought about disabling commenting on all posts older than say a month old anyway. Just simply because that would get most of them, but every once in a while somebody reads back through an old post and I want them to be able to comment if they want.
Anyway, I’ve taken to disabling the comments on the couple of posts here or there that tend to be attracting 95% of the comment spam. I don’t think anyone will notice, but if you do, sorry for the inconvenience.

I was playing around with twitter, and not one day after I signed up on Twitter, did BoardGameGeek add a feature where you could add all your played games to your twitter feed.
I played with it a little bit this weekend, but I don’t think I’ll continue to do this, I don’t know that anyone is really all that interested in it, and if so, were it an interesting game played or something happened, I would just do so manually. This web site already contains the games last recently played by me anyway. I’ve always thought it was fun, and I use it to click on the link and get directly to a certain game sometimes when I want a fast link to it. Usually when I’m reading one of my blog posts or something.
But I see no need in duplicating this data into my twitter feed. But I did add my twitter feed to the side bar just to see whether or not I like it. I may not continue to use twitter, but it will be there for the time being.
In doing this, I decided that I wanted to separate site navigation and categorization from the “fun stuff” links, the photos, recently played stuff, twitter, etc. So, I went to the three column design. Also, a change of color, just for something different.

I’ve decided to finally embrace the tags. Actually, it’s not that I had anything really against the tags to begin with, just I never added them to the main pages, so I never bothered entering them.
In any case, I finally got around to it, as you can see, These are kind of a replacement for categories, though I will still use both to some degree because I like filtering the RSS feeds, and I haven’t played with the tags enough to know if you can filter the RSS feeds on the tags.
But now they exist at the bottom of every post, and a tag cloud sidebar is also created. It will grow over time. I will be adding tags to many of the older posts on a case by case basis when I get around to it. Probably sometime after I get around to finally purchasing a new machine. My old one is on it’s last legs…
It’s pretty simple if you’ve never used any before. If you see a topic of interest over in the tag cloud, you can click on it to see the other posts with that tag. It should help for finding old information a little bit better. The bigger the text in the cloud. The more posts that I’ve written on that subject.

Yes, I used to keep this very Family Oriented, and would only post data when I had new pictures, or notes, or something rather important to say. Well, as you can see, I’ve decided instead to mix it up and post more often. There are actually a couple of reasons for this.
- With the implementation of the categories that I started using when Dad also came over to start posting, coupled with the extra feeds that I’ve added to the bottom which can filter posts out based on the categories (check them out in the sidebar under “Feeds”). I have given any visitor the power to filter the information on their own. So there is no reason I should have to filter it for them. You can see and subscribe quite easily to only the information that you want. Also, if you are only interested in one category, and you don’t use an RSS Aggregator, then just bookmark the category you like. That way, when you visit the page, that’s all you’ll see of it.
- I’d like to encourage other members of my family to write more. Even if it is something quite trivial. Over time, it is kind of nice that I know little subtleties about my friends and family. And when I see them I will have more to talk about with you about as well. If you want to be able to also post entries or photos on this website, just send me a note and I’ll make sure I get you signed up (only open to my immediate and extended family of course).
- Over time, I’ll build up a repository of some of my notes and information that were available to me at the time, and be able to look back and see how it may relate to the current situation. This became more prominent when I was cleaning up some of the old posts and it was kind of fun to see what I had written in 2006 or early 2007. Over more time, this will only get more interesting I think. Especially if I make more than one or two posts a month.
Oh well, I hope you guys can live with it. It’s quite possible that it’s also only a phase that I’m going through. Trying to make it more useful both to me and to friends and relatives rather than just sitting idle most of the time. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please feel free to comment or send me a message.
