Octavian on BGG in the RSP forum today.

It was just too good not to share.

This shows the current (as of this morning 3/29/2010) official web pages for the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Looking at the two pages, which party do you think has more intelligence and class. And which party do you think respects its readers?

As Octavian put it. “It looks like they are writing for different audiences.” I put it to you: Which audience would you trust running the country?

So, I think I might be out of touch with today’s music.

I walked in on Val while she was watching TV. It was some girl screaming into the microphone. I asked her what she was watching.

Val: American Idol

Me: Well, she needs to get voted off then.

Val: She’s the special guest they asked to come sing. She’s already famous.

Me: Oh.

Maybe I should just stick with listening to NPR.

So, I thought I had made a nice score on Ebay. I found Chicago Express for $30 shipped. Turns out, I’m a moron. But I won’t take all the blame. The listing is very vague.

See for yourself:

Anyway, only the three letters Exp identify it as an expansion. Problem is, on ebay. People often list things all the time with abbreviations so that they will show up in other searches. So when I see “Chicago Express Exp Rio Grand Games” as a title, the letters “Exp” did not click in my head as expansion, but instead as an abbreviation for Express.

When you look at the auction description, there is no actual game information. There is a Rio Grande Games Inventory Number, but really, are we consumers actually expected to look at that?

Anyway, I’ve contacted him. Hopefully, he’ll let me return it. I already have Wabash Cannonball, and I was only buying Chicago Express because I thought I found it at a very nice price. I’m not going to go out and pay another $50 bucks for the game that I already have (in albeit a less pimped out format).

When did Augusta, Kentucky gain sentience?

LittleSnapper

I didn’t know towns to could add people as friends.

….

I know, it’s just a joke OK.

And what did I do, that Facebook keeps suggesting that I add Eli Manning as a friend? Seriously. I’m pretty sure he has no idea who I am.

I’ve been having a healthy fun little debate with my sister tonight.

And she said something that has struck a cord with me. I’m a pretty socialist person. Some people may know this if they have asked me, some people may not as it’s not information I volunteer in casual knowledge or conversation.

In any case, she said:

I just don’t understand why you insist on pushing your ideologies on others. If you truly are liberal, be liberal. Let people believe as they want to believe, and respect them for it. If not, call yourself close-minded and radical. Don’t call yourself “liberal.” You are misusing the term.

Regarding a comment I made to a mutual friends facebook status.

Now, living in Mississippi, and in the deep south in particular, you can gather a pretty fair indication of what the demographic of my facebook friends really is. If you live outside of the country, or really don’t know. Let’s just say it’s a very very conservative very right wing group of people for the most part.

When I got to news feeds every day, all I see is Obama’s taking away this right, Obama’s taking away that right. This country is dying, Sensationalist news items, right wing blog post links, etc. etc.

For the most part I ignore these. Always have. They have their opinions and I have mine. But here’s the thing. I made one comment on post hoping that we might get health care passed, and immediately am inundated with right wing propaganda from my very own sister. Spouting party line gobbldy gook like she got it directly from the Republican Noise Machine.

After I proved her gobbldy gook wrong. That’s when she posted that gem to me quoted above.

But you know what. She’s right. I am a liberal. I do keep silent. I let people live the way they want, and if they say something I don’t agree with, 99 times out of 100 I have let it go and went on with my life.

But this is the problem. Conservatives are not built that way. If they don’t agree with something, they argue the point, hoping to persuade you to their side. They post links to news items on right wing blogs. They forward funny jokes trying to brainwash people into thinking their ideas are good. They speak in soundbites and one liners that people can repeat at the water cooler the next day and get a laugh. A friend once said to me that Republicans are not looking for a healthy debate on issues, they are looking for affirmations of their beliefs. And it is with this goal in mind that they inundate us with propaganda over and over. This has only become more true in the information age.

This gives them a heck of an advantage on matters of Lobbying, or Government, or Law. It is only by holding majorities in the three branches of government that we can keep them at bay. But even that, has been weakened by powerful lobbies over the past several decades.

Being a liberal makes it extremely difficult for me to support sweeping changes. Perhaps instead of being Liberals, we should become activists. Liberals with an agenda. Only then will we be able to secure the changes that our country so desperately needs.
