I’ve played around with the modules and moved some stuff around again. Hopefully it’ll be a little more organized. I like the little Web Widgets. And although they aren’t technically “Family” things. Since this is the only blog I post to and I control the main layout of it. This is where the stuff that I think is cool goes.

I hope I don’t discourage any of you guys that want to post to actually do so. I moved the games to the bottom on the right and put the links back up at the top.

I also added a little paypal donation button. I don’t expect you to use it. But I thought I’d add it if you wanted to help pay my hosting fees which are due each july. Perhaps someday, I’ll write a profound article that generates tons of traffic as well and with thousands of eyeballs I’ll get a couple of tips or something.

You never know, it could happen.

Can’t wait to see Erin and Dad on Saturday. Nice to see the Cats beat Louisville as well. Also, they come down to Oxford on January 6th. I don’t know if Mom will be in town or anything by then (Dad mentioned something about her coming in January) but I would enjoy any guests if anyone is close by.

It is not my intent to give up on this site. Or fold it up, or never post here again. It’s just that I haven’t had all that much to say. Not a whole lot that’s interesting enough to post on here has gone on in my life.

I spent a quiet thanksgiving at home, it was actually kinda nice. That was not my intent, however. I would’ve went to Dads, but I thought it was going to be crowded there, then it ended up that nobody went.

I could take some pics of the girls. Val still has some stuff from Halloween that nobody’s posted. She was going to post some on here, and got upset a little bit when she discovered that she had taken all the girls halloween pics but forgotten to put a memory card in the camera. So she would have to get them redressed up and take some pics.

I guess that’s akin to the old no film in the camera problem from year’s ago. You’d think that there would be some sort of warning or something from the camera though.

I went to a few basketball games over the last couple of weeks. Ole Miss hasn’t really been playing very good basketball lately. Doesn’t look much better this year so far. Been having some tough games with the dash/directional schools that they’ve been playing as of late. Might be a tough trek through the SEC, but perhaps they can suprise some folks.

I do like their new floor. It’s very much like Indiana, it’s clean. Only lines. I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m no fan of the wings being painted in a basketball floor. This one will be much easier on the eyes.

Val and the Kids made it back on Saturday just as expected. It’s kind of nice having them around again. In all, it’s kind of boring sometimes sitting around at home by yourself. I did get some yard work done, landscaping and the like, but I need to fix my weed eater.

Closing on the old house should be Wednesday at 1:00 pm. Barring any major disaster or anything, we should be finished with it at that time. It was a good house, just a little bit to small for our family after the addition of Olivia. I wish the best to the next family that will occupy the house.

With the return of my kids, I finally have my “game group” back. We played a game yesterday called “cloud 9“. Sarah and I were introduced to the game earlier this year when playing it with another family when I took her to MidSouthCon earlier this year. We had fun with the game, it’s kind of a press your luck style game with good cards and nice components. We played it six player at the con and it went over well enough, despite missing one rule. So since I recently received a copy in a trade, I thought Val, Sarah, and I would give it another shot.

This game does not work well with three players. Basically you take turns rolling the dice to pilot a balloon by playing cards matching the dice you roll. Players can guess whether or not you will be successful and jump off the balloon if they feel you will fail, thus scoring the points so far. If you fail, then everyone still in the hot air balloon will then receive no points and the balloon will reset, everyone receives a card and you begin again.

Now, the problem lies in that with three players, you’re piloting the balloon a lot more than with 5 or 6, thusly, you have less cards available to you, making it much more difficult to get the balloon anywhere above three or four clouds. So you’re only scoring one or two points in each trip.

Since the game goes to 50, it makes for a very long game.

I think it could be fixed, next time we play with three players, we’ll try going to 25 points, and giving each player two cards for each new balloon trip. Somewhere in between will more than likely be the sweet spot.

On a related note, I’m trying to get a regular game group off the ground in the Oxford, Mississippi Area. I’ve decided to start hosting regular semi-public game nights at our house every other week. I’m hoping that works out well.

Good luck to dad in his trip home. Hope to see you soon.

So just before dad left I managed to pilfer his old computer desk from him. It’s a corner type desk that I thought would work better in our office/guest room.

It took a couple of weeks, but last night Val and I managed to put it together without the instructions. I had some basic idea of what I should have done based on what dad had told me when he gave it to me. But it was still a challenge getting everything together.

We did end up with a few extra screws. I sure hope it doesn’t fall apart.

Setting it up in the room showed that I was indeed right. It will definately make the room flow better. I think it’s a little less constricted and a much more open room now. Especially since the (also pilfered from dad) sleeper sofa is in that room.

The old computer desk will probably be going up on freecycle sometime later this week. That way I can get rid of it quickly. Maybe I’ll throw some of the other stuff in the garage on there as well… Don’t tell Val.

All in all the new house is working out great. We still would like to sell the old house, and still haven’t had anyone bite on it. We lowered the price about a month or so ago, so maybe that will help.

Our double decker festival is coming up this weekend. It’s always a fun time, especially for the kids. I’ll post some notes and pictures about it sometime next week.
